This course will enable a fundamental understanding of the behaviour of a bolted flange, an essential component of pressure equipment. It will provide you with the tools according to ASME PCC-1 to minimize possible leaks related to ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47 standard flanges and to respect provincial environmental standards.

This course will enable a fundamental understanding of the behaviour of a bolted flange, an essential component of pressure equipment. It will provide you with the tools according to ASME PCC-1 to minimize possible leaks related to ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47 standard flanges and to respect provincial environmental standards.

 

 

This course will present an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of all available methods according to ASME PCC-1 and the opinion of the Codes (ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47, ASME B16.20, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, ASME Section VIII Div 1 / Div 2). Note: Please note that since the publication of its 2016 edition, ASME B31.3 requires bolting procedures and qualified bolters based on the principles of ASME PCC-1.


OBJECTIVES

 

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

 

  • Identify the main causes of leakage at the ASME flanges.
  • Determine the torque to be transmitted to the bolts to reduce the risk of leaks.
  • Understand the “opinions” of key codes (ASME B31.1, B31.3, ASME Section I, ASME Section VIII, Div. 1, CSA Z662, etc.)
