Sodium Sulfate Plant

Québec, Canada

Project description

The Water Treatment Unit (WTU) uses soda ash in the neutralization step of the sulfuric acid and therefore generates an effluent with a high concentration of sodium sulfate that is sent to the St. Lawrence River. Environmental regulations limit the amount of sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) that can be discharged from the water treatment unit into the St. Lawrence River. The objective of this project is to eliminate the transfer of sodium sulfate to the St. Lawrence River by producing a sodium sulfate salt using a new sodium sulfate crystallization plant.

Total project cost

$42M
